Do I need a paid certificate if my hosting has free SSL?
Not always. Free SSL gives you HTTPS and the padlock. Choose a paid certificate when you want a commercial certificate authority, a site seal, or your verified company name in the certificate, for example for online payments or a registered business.
What is the difference between DV and OV?
DV (domain validated) proves you control the domain and is issued quickly. OV (organisation validated) also verifies your registered business, so the certificate shows your company details.
Can I use the certificate if my website is hosted elsewhere?
Yes. We send you the certificate files after validation, and you or your developer install them on your server. Contact support if you need help.
How long does a certificate last?
Certificates are sold per year. We remind you before the renewal date, and renewals are invoiced like your other services.
Will SSL slow my website down?
No. Modern encryption adds almost no overhead, and HTTPS lets browsers use HTTP/2, which is usually faster.
